November 2008 'A' level certificates

To all Ex-Pre-U (2008) students:

The school has received the error-free November 2008 'A' level certificates. Please collect your certificate from Ms. Michelle Tieng or Ck. Norashidah in the Senior Master Office (Ground Floor of Admin Block) as soon as possible, especially if you are planning to go to uni overseas. It is better if you come in the mornings and please be aware that the tutors in-charge might be teaching/invigilating so you might have to wait in school for a while and be patient :)

If you have taken the certificate with the wrong IC number a few months ago, you MUST return it to the Senior Master Office when you collect the error-free certificate.

By James Kon

Mr Chan Yeng Kit, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information,
Communications and the Arts in Singapore presenting
the best performer award to Nurliza binti Abd Zabar.

In a lively debate that was mixed with creative play, this year's Bridging Minds Debate series was won by the opposition team who has put up a convincing argument against the topic of " Recession: A Blessing?" yesterday at RTB's Dewan Raya.

Bridging Minds 2009 is a debate series that seeks to promote friendship and goodwill between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore. Both the proposition and opposition teams were made up of both Bruneian and Singaporean participants.

The victorious opposition team comprised Bruneian students -Yusof Fadli bin Hj Sidek of Katok Sixth Form Centre, Nur Aqilah binti Ariffin of Science College and Singaporean students - Jenemjit Kaur of Punjabi Jurong Junior College, Vanessa Lim Ying Ying of Anglo Chinese Junior College and Max Fu Xiang Ming of Hwa Chong Institution.

Meanwhile the proposition team included Bruneian students Mohamad Safrizan bin Morsidi of Meragang Sixth Form Centre, Nurliza binti Abd Zabar of Sayyidina Ali Secondary School, KB, Muhammad Amirul Syafiq bin Noorazmi of Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College and Singaporean students Heidi Tan Ya Hui of Catholic Junior College and Elizabeth Fong Lin of National Junior College.

The award for best performer went to Nurliza binti Abd Zabar of Sayyidina Ali Secondary School, KB.

Both teams have to put three acts to support their points. After each act, a team member was allowed to rebut before the following act.

In an interview with one of the teachers in charge of the Brunei's debate team, Miss Joanna Kwan, she said that although they had only met twice to prepare for the debate, she could see that the students were dedicated and committed to do their best.

She also said that in addition to building friendship, Bridging Mind has also helped students to enhance their drama skills especially in relaying the messages to the audience.

Present as the guest of honour was Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Osman bin Pengiran Hj Patra, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Brunei Darussalam with Mr Chan Yeng Kit, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, Singapore.

The show will be aired in two weeks time in Brunei Darussalam and also in Singapore.
